In Memoriam

Hal Bostic

After a quiet, dignified and resolute 14-year battle with cancer, Hal Bostic succumbed to the disease on December 31, 2016. During his airport management career, Hal served at four different airports, starting at the Oakland International Airport in 1968 as a fire fighter and working his way up to Operations Manager. He left Oakland in 1988 to teach in Ukiah. In 1992, he returned to the airport management profession at the Santa Maria Airport and became the Assistant General Manager. In 1995, he moved to Sacramento to serve as the Facilities Manager at Sacramento International Airport. While there, he also served as the interim Operations and Maintenance Manager. Hal moved to Reno in 2000, to be the Senior Director of Operations and Public Safety at the Reno/Tahoe International Airport, retiring from that position and our profession in 2008. Few have been as dedicated to the SWAAAE as was Hal.  A 46 year member of the association, Hal served as Executive Director between 1988 and 1996.  A recipient of the President’s Award in 1994, he also served as the association’s President in 2002 - 2003.  A better husband and father, a more respected professional and a greater friend could not be found. With compassion, grace and humor, Hal touched our lives.  We’re better for his having been with us.

To honor and remember Hal, contributions in his name may be made to the SWAAAE Scholarship Fund and/or the Hospice of Bozeman (Montana) Health.
