Southwest Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives

The Southwest Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives was originally formed in 1947 as the California Association of Airport Executives (CAAE), the organization has expanded over the years and in 1979 became the Southwest Chapter of the nationwide American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE). Currently, the Chapter represents Arizona, Nevada, California, Hawaii, American Trust Islands in the South Pacific, the Baja Norte/Sur - Sonora regions of Mexico, and the countries of Australia and New Zealand. Since its founding, the purpose of the organization has been to bring together all persons representing public use airports as well as persons interested in and working for the benefit of aviation.

When did you join SWAAAE and what motivated you to do so?

I first joined SWAAAE in 2020. I was pursuing a private pilot license to become a commercial airline pilot, and wished to further expand my knowledge of the aviation industry as a career.

Sacramento International Airport (SMF) opened on October 21, 1967, as Sacramento Metropolitan Airport and was the first public-use airport west of the Mississippi that had been built entirely from the ground up. The first airlines to serve the airport were Pacific, PSA, United, Western and West Coast.
